Little Learner's Club - Experiments

At LLC this week we did some cool experiments! We started out with volcanos! I thought this experiment was the best one. It was easy, quick and held the kid's attention.

We just put baking soda and food coloring in baby food jars, surrounded the jars with playdoh to make it look like a volcano and then poured vinegar in the jars to make them erupt!

Next we made lava lamps with water bottles. We poured half water and half oil in the bottles, added food coloring and then put an alka seltzer tablet in the bottle to make them bubble.

Lastly, we made slime which was basically a combination of glue, food coloring, borax soap and water. It was definitely sticky!

Fall!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE fall! It's my favorite season. I love the crisper weather, getting to wear sweaters, fall food, carving pumpkins, baking fallish things and so much more! I'm stealing some ideas, once again, from Melissa (thanks friend!) and making a list of fun fall things for us to do.

Visit the pumpkin Patch
Go apple picking
Go through a corn maze
Make pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes and pumpkin ice cream
Make caramel apples (DONE!)
Drink apple cider
Jump in a pile of leaves
Pick out halloween costumes
Throw a halloween party
Go trick-or-treating
Paint a pumpkin
Decorate the table
Go to the harvest festival
Have a Thanksgiving feast with friends
Participate in a pumpkin progressive dinner

I can't wait to let the fun and festivities begin!

The Grand Californian

As an early birthday gift for Brian, we took an impromptu trip to Disney's Grand Californian hotel and spa. Brian had been wanting to stay there for awhile because it looked really nice and has an entrance right into California Adventure. Well, we finally went this week and it was such a fun trip! We were originally only going to stay one night, but once we arrived we decided two nights would be a good idea. Here is part of the hotel:

This is a sliding door - the entrance to the hotel

We left our house right on time on Tuesday morning only to get stuck right smack dab in the middle of backed up traffic after a huge accident on the 15 freeway. We finally arrived at Disneyland almost 4 hours later. I was afraid it would ruin our trip but we didn't let it get to us and by the time we made it to the hotel, our room was ready and our girls had both had naps so it actually worked out perfectly!

We went in to Disneyland right away and enjoyed some rides and hardly any lines. Then we came back to our room and enjoyed some dinner and the World of Color show from our balcony!

He was actually much happier than he looks!

The next morning, Brian surprised me with a massage appointment at the hotel spa! Oh how I love that man! It was heavenly and when I got back we headed down to the enormous pool area, complete with a water slide, ate lunch and played.

The girls and Brian took naps and I went to read - by myself! - down by the pool.

We headed back to the park around 4:00 and met up with friends. We went on some more rides, had dinner and watched the amazing Soundsational Parade! Avi's favorites were Ariel, Rapunzel and her conversation with Peter Pan.

Rapunzel was waving to Avi who was wearing her Rapunzel dress!

What a fun family trip! Happy Birthday Brian!

Homeschool - Week 2

Our colors for this week were brown, yellow and green. This time, instead of the flashlight, I let Avi take pictures of the different colors around the house. Here is what she came up with:

And, of course we needed a shot of all the princesses!

We also worked on the number 1, days 4-7 of creation, and did some fun with apples for September. We even had Grandma come one day to participate!

 Reading with Grandma
 Sorting apples by color
 Apple painting
I LOVE this picture! Concentrating so hard on her coloring!

Eating goldfish for day 5 of creation
This is her new smile. Like it?

Her giant ice cream cone of each week's colors. We need a bigger paper!
 Making homemade ice cream
Shaking the ice cream and our booties!
The finished product!
