Riley's Farm Field Trip

A few weeks ago we took a field trip to Riley's Farms. We are studying US History and are in Colonial times right now so we decided to join in on their Colonial Farm Life Tour. It was so much fun!

We started out our day by picking apples of course!

As part of the tour, we learned some of the games that colonial children used to play,

learned about the supplies soldiers used to carry,

dipped candles,

learned about etiquette,

wrote with a quill and ink,

and practiced some weaving.

It was such a beautiful and fun day of learning. We came home with this a great basket of apples and an awesome apple pie!

Have I mentioned how much I love homeschooling :)

Homeschool Week 3

A day late and a dollar short. Or in my case, 3 weeks late and broke! Here is our third week of school...

Fall!!!

Fall is here! It's my favorite time of year and we have some fun planned!

Make... caramel apples

roasted pumpkin seeds

Throw a halloween party

Do leaf rubbings

Visit the pumpkin patch

Go apple picking

Go through a corn maze

Make corn husk dolls

Carve pumpkins

Pumpkin crafts

Looks like we are going to be eating our way through fall! Sounds great to me!

Love Thy Neighbor...

For the past couple years, the book of Acts in the Bible, with stories of the early churches, has been consuming for me. It seems like God is reminding me of the value of living in community with others and being service-minded on a daily basis. All too often, we get caught up in the daily grind of getting things done and fail to seize the moments when we could be more "neighborly". One day, the girls and I just made time for it and we all had such a good time!

We made strawberry jam,

and cookies,

and took butternut squash and basil from our garden around to the neighbors.

It was pretty cute watching the girls walk from house to house with a rolling suitcase full of treats! They said "happy treat day!" at each house. I think this will hopefully be a monthly tradition for us. I so badly want my girls to grow up being missional in their thinking and living. 

Pretend City

A few weeks ago, a friend and I took our kids to a place called Pretend City in Irvine. It was so cute! Everything was kid-sized. They had a cafe, fishing area, doctor office, dentist office, fire station, police station, garden, theater, a building room, a small replica of a real house, a grocery store and so much more! The kids had so much fun pretending!
